2003 7.3 Excursion Mods

I am installing a MBRP 4in Exhaust and a Ford AIS Air Cleaner. I am thinking of adding a Bully Dog chip or programmer. What is the advantage of the chip or programmer? What one should I add? I am also thinking of a Wicked Wheel. Is it worth adding? How many hours would it take to install??

I have stock 2003 Ford Excursion, 7.3 L, 4x4, Eddie Baurer, with 22000 miles. I am moving to Idaho and will be making a lot of trips up the mountain for ski trips. I will also be hauling a 23 foot toy hauler in the summer up and down mountains.

Looking for some advice.

thanks

That filter and exhaust is a great start! Get gauges installed to monitor EGT ,tranny and boost BEFORE adding power. Then call Jody Tipton for a flip chip...you'll love it!!!! http://www.dp-tuner.com/

I agree with PSNut, depending on what setting you have you programmer,,, it is very easy hitting that 1200 degree EGT temp. even with a light load going up hill, Gauges are a MUST!!!!!

Definitely get an intake, exhaust, and gauges - like the other guys said - before adding fuel with a chip or tuner!! For towing and hauling - I'd definitely suggest a chip over a tuner - much faster and easier changes between tunes - but get whichever one you decide on, with Jody's tunes on it!!! A WW would most likely be a good idea - especially with your towing plans - as most modded PSD's usually have some turbo surge (which is what the WW is meant to cure).

Also considering what you'll be doing with the rig - definitely look into an aftermarket transmission cooler, and check out the BTS vb for awesome trans shifting that goes hand in hand with Jody's tunes!!
