I am wanting to put a factory ford navigation unit in my 03 eddie baurer excursion. I have the rear entertainment package. I know how to install stereos and all that, just really am wondering if anyone knows if a factory one from a expedition will work. I want to retain my rear entertainment system.
It depends on which model of nav you want to install. My 03 Expy had the factory nav which sucked and was out of date at purchase. The CD set was $220 and had to be purchased as a set and not just the SE which is all I needed. That system used the speed sensor input from the truck, an external GPS antenna which was integrated into the passenger side rear vent window which also had the radio antenna in it. It would control the rear DVD but not sure if it would actually work in a different truck.
The newer radios are hooked into the CAN bus and I believe the dealer can program both the vehicle and the radio to work together but it's not a simple plug and play. While the factory look is nice it probably wont be the best option in the long run. I use just a cheapo TomTom mounted above the rear view mirror and the in dash is just for radio/entertainment. I did have to replace my rear system but wanted to do a full system anyway.
