4x4 questions on 87 BII
I have a 87 Bronco II 4x4 5 speed. When the 4 wheel drive is engaged is it normal for the front tires to chirp as you turn corners? As you entering and exiting the corners there is a vibration then turns into a tire chirp the harder the conner. On straight sections of road it's fine.
Also on the handle for engaging the 4 wheel drive in the truck in the following order
2 wheel high
4 wheel high
neutral
4 wheel low
I can easily engage 2 wheel high, 4 wheel high and neutral but I can't find 4 wheel low. Does this mean the truck doesn't have a 4 wheel low and the handle is just incorrect?

You should not drive in 4H or 4L on dry pavement, it destroys the drive train because it binds up (the chirping) even in a straight line.
If the vehicle has a body lift or other sort of lift, it is possible you can not move the lever all the way back to engage 4LO because of interference (most likely the floor pan needs to be notched).
Try this, put the transmission into N, shut the engine off on a slight incline, pull the 4x4 level back all the way, if it does not engage, let it roll slightly while pulling back on the lever.
If the vehicle has a body lift or other sort of lift, it is possible you can not move the lever all the way back to engage 4LO because of interference (most likely the floor pan needs to be notched).

1) your 4L is "offset" from the somewhat straight-line shift pattern so that you don't jam it into 4L and tear apart your tansfer case. Sometimes, as rebocardo said, it requires a little bit of manipulation to get it to slip into 4L.
2) If your BII still has the factory decals on the driver's sun visor, it SPECIFICALLY states not to drive in 4H or 4L on dry pavement. The vibration, however is somewhat normal, but you may want to check your front axle u-joints at the knuckles and just off center on the passenger's side. If they're the originals, then they probably haven't been lubed in a while and need lubrication and/or replacement. You may also want to check to see if your front bearings are packed and adjusted properly and the alignment is dead-on -- especially if you hear this same chirping in 2WD with the hubs disengaged.
