I'm also curious how you take these windshield moldings off, without damaging them.

I have a problem with water dripping inside the cab, to the point where it rotted the upper corners of the windshield pillar post.

You can pop them off with a screwdriver, but the proper way is to have the tool that the glass shops have to remove them.

It is possible to crack a windsheild trying to remove them so be carefull.

Pry up on the chrome, from the outside edge. If you are not confident, go and practice on a wrecked truck. There are plastic keepers that could break when going through the removal process, so if you go and get the metal keepers off of lets say a 1992 to 1996 vehicle they will work. Also the molding for the windshield on a 1992 to 1996 will fit, fine on our trucks if you make a mistake, or had a bird hit yours.

hope this helps.

there is caulking that can go bad at the top of the A pillars, where the top of the cab attaches. or it was on mine. The windshield itself didn't leak it was leaking through the seam. Had it removed and new stuff put in it's place. Paint with some touchup, and as good as new, with no leaks.

81-F-150-Explorer, Bingo. That's exactly what happened. The seam where the roof meets the A-post leaked, then rotted through to the inside of the cab where, again, the A-post meets the ceiling of the cab.

I heard that was somewhat common on these trucks with the drip rail.

I'll have to check that, i noticed my drivers side corner leaking.

I removed all of that trim without damaging it, but i did crack my windshield, which is getting replaced anyway (which is partly why i was removing the trim). There are metal clips on mine. I started with the bottom corners, pulled them up a little bit, there are clips on the metal trim, when you can see them and figure out how they come off it makes things easier. I really cant explain how they come off, i can take pics of mine sometime if you still need them though.

The easy way is to get the trim tool from an autoparts store. The tool is cheap and ford has used the same clips for the chrome for years!

Yeah, i'll snap some pics of what the clips look like and how they attach so i can kind of show you how to get them off. Otherwise, i think i would opt to going to the parts store to get the tool too, cause what i did was tricky and wound up breaking my allready broken windshield. BUt i'll get some pics, it might take a while though...trucks at the GF's now.
