Plastic Tailgate Moulding

This past weekend I was moving some furniture and scratched up the moulding that runs across the top of the tailgate pretty good. I have contacted my dealership and they have new moulding for pretty cheap, so I am thinking about replacing it. How easy is it to do without causing damage to the tailgate? I remember seeing a truck one time without that moulding on it, and saw a bunch of holes in the top of the tailgate, so I am assuming there are tabs on the back side of the moulding that snap into those holes on the tailgate. Is that correct? How do I get the old moulding off? Do I need to take that access panel off of the tailgate and then work those tabs loose so the moulding comes off? Thanks in advance for the help!

Remove the screws on the back panel then pull off the moulding. I've had to put mine back on a few times because it has come off from stepping on it getting out of the bed. easy fix.

just pulls off. may take a little force, but even if the tabs break it won't matter as you are replacing it. new one snaps on.

I have an '07 F250 sd with that moulding too. It is really easy to replace. You have to loosen the plate on the inside of the tailgate and it will click into place. then just tighten the plate up again. This is problem matic in my opinion. I have had to put it on a couple of times.

The replacement piece was $34.00 As far as the part number, I am not sure as I just explained what I wanted and the parts guy knew what I was talking about...hopefully somebody on here knows.

Maybe yours cost more because it's tan for the King Ranch, standard is black?

That is what I was thinking. I have noticed a few things are more expensive for the KR or Lariat than they are for my XLT.
