I know there are a million posts on power steering boxes for 67-72 trucks, but upon looking through them all I still cannot find the answer to my question. I have the opportunity to get a rebuilt Bendix power steering box through my work for $175. I know everyone says not to use them because you can't find parts for them, but this one has a lifetime warranty so I'm not worried about parts. I've read that this box will bolt right up to where the existing manual box goes, and my question is does anyone know where there are any pictures of the bendix box so I can look at it before I order it? Also does it bolt to the inside (engine side) of the frame or the outside (fender side)? Any help would be much appriciated. Thanks
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Aug-02 AT 11:23 PM (EST)]the bendix box bolts on where the manual box is. the good thing about the bendix box is, it is a direct bolt on power steering for 65-79 non power steering trucks. bad thing is, in your case, it only fits 2 wheel drive trucks. sorry no power for you. you may be able to use the 78-79 4x4 power steering system on yours.
I have the bendix on my 71 F100. It was all ready converted from non/power when I bought it.The problem I have with it is. That the steering colum shaft length is to long for my after market steering wheel.I have worked on this a few times and even tried the "ford" box.
The "ford" box would not even bolt up because the shaft is to long and does not let it lineup with the holes in the frame. So after few trips and a few talks with the guy at the shop. We think there is two length steering shafts one for power and one for nonpower. ?????????
???????
there are 2 different shafts. power and nonpower-bendix power. some one may have switched to a later model shaft with the nub on the end in yours. or you may need to slide the housing up some. or you may have the wrong adaptor or cover plate. what is wrong that your wheel wont fit on the shaft?
