Question 2 or 4

I have a 79 f250 with a basically stock 400 and is basically used for off roadin and haulin wood and junk, my question is do any of u guys use a holley 500cfm 2 brl carb and would that produce any gains whatsoever? i know a 4 brl setup would be so much better but i lack the finances for that at the present time....college does that to a person

thanks
bill

I have basically the same setup, and I switch back and forth between a holley 500cfm 2bbl and the stock carb(for smog) The only modification to my 400 is the straight-up timing chain I installed. There is more power, especially when it's tuned right. With the holley I can break the tires loose pretty easily, the stock carb is not so easy. Just my case, I'd say if you don't need smog it'd be a good way to add a little boost. Good luck.

I used to have a truck with a 400 and a holley 2 barrel and it could roast my 33" tires no problem and it ran pretty nice to. My present truck has a 400 and a weiand intake and holley 650cfm 4barrel and it has a very strong amount of power, quite a bit more than the 2 barrel motor, but like you said you are on a budget so I think the 2 bbl would give you a little more power that you would probobly notice.
