Name brand isn't really a good indicator. I personally didn't like the narrow short types of floor jacks and searced for a garage type. Like the ones used in the 'Filling Stations'. They are wide, long, and low to the ground. Most of the better auto supply houses carry them and won't set you back too much. Besides, I look at it as an investment since you will never have to buy another one in your lifetime.

My friends say I'm too old to play with toys.
I need new friends
I have a 2.5 ton "long-frame" jack that I got on sale from Harbor Freight for $100. It is far and away the best jack I've ever owned as it will lift to a height of 30+ inches and the long frame allows you to pump the handle without hitting the bumpers. It's a far cry from a lift, but as jacks go it's the best I've ever seen.

I have one of those long frame 2.5 ton jacks from Harbor Freight too. I have never seen it on sale for $100.00. The best price I have seen on it was $150.00. Guess I missed the big sale. Fortunately, mine was a gift from a friend. I use it mostly for pulling transmissions where getting the car high enough is a problem with "regular" floor jacks. It is also great for working on my '48 Ford tractor.
I've only ever seen it for $100 twice, and then only for short term sales - $150 is the regular price and frankly well worth even that in my opinion.
I've also used it on a tractor - my buddy's 1950 Ford 8N - worked great!!
I've had the Jack for about a year now and so far it's holding up extremely well. Time will tell its long term durability, but at this point I'd recommend it to anyone who regularly works on vehicles - particularly trucks with there higher ride heights.

Try and find a good high lift floor jack with a removable saddle. You can buy saddles that will turn your floor jack into a tranny jack. A friend of mine has one. I'll try to get the particulars on it.
