Alright, i sanded everything down with 600 grit sandpaper, it roughed everything up and gave it a hazy finish, did not go through anywhere. Another coat of clear will get rid of this hazy finish right? according to my friend who worked in a body shop for a while it will, but do i need to go over it with 1500 or anything like that? Were going to re-clear it with a water seperator today. Let me know, thanks everyone!
a few tips, get the throw away type filters for a few bucks, in ADDITION to all your other filters. A second tank will only cost about $30 and helps to cool and dry the air, connect with a regular hose.
I like to stop and drain the tanks between coats if time permits, helps to get water out of the system.
Okay, bought a craftsman filter for 25 bucks and that thing was taking water out like crazy. The last coat went on like 100 times better, but you can still see the dimples. So right now i'm working on it with 1500 grit paper and am going to buff away. Any kind of pads/ buffing compound i should use? Thanks everyone! This thing will look sweet!
I run two water seperators that are mounted on a wall between compressor/regulator and hose to the gun- these are ones that you open the petcock and drain. I also use a screw in filter attached to the regulator and guage thats on the gun. it is a disposable filter that has blue silicone ***** in it that turn pink when it needs to be replaced- they cost about 7 bucks a shot and last a paintjob at most with my set-up. They filter out water and oils etc.
Anything less than this- according to my mentors- will guarentee you will have fish eye problems with a hvlp gun cause they work the compressors so hard and thus build up condensation- My final set up will have a line of 3-4 water filters.
good to know, thank you. I think that this one filter alone helped a great deal. I'm guessing that the filters are availible at paint shops? Thanks again!
