I've tried everything. I have a generator with a flathead inline 6 Lincoln. 40's or 50's era. Haven't used it for years, now I remember why. In the last week, I've rebuilt the carb 4 times. I can get it to idle smooth at 3/4 choke, but when I open the throttle it dies.
I've treid plugging the PCV valve and it helped...a little.
It has a single barrel updraft. There is an adjustment screw on top and one on the bottom. They both work and effect the engine, but I have no idea where to preset them. I also don't know which I should adjust for low speed or high speed. or if one is just air and one fuel.
as an added note: this is a gravity fed carb. It's getting gas, or it wouldn't run at all, but is it getting enough? Would adding an electric fuel pump help or hurt (or make no difference)?
It either has a massive vacuum leak or something sutck in the main jet. Did you soak the carb in anything to clean it? Try using a little wire, like a piece of .035" welding wire, to clean the passages and jet.
The carb, and every little orifice and jet, is super clean. The PCV was stuck 'open' and sucking massive amounts of air. I plugged the vent line and things improved, but not enough. there is only a gasket at the top of the carb to the manifold, and a gasket beteen the manifold and head. Not many places for a leak to occur, but I'll try testing with starting fluid.
