I just did my first oil change this weekend. I have always been a fan of WIX filters so I used one. I then started reading on the forum that people were having problems with oil pressure during startup if they used anything other than an OEM filter. I had never really paid that much attention as to the delay in oil pressure during startup, so I started noticing. With the WIX filter it took about three seconds to indicate oil pressure after startup. So, I went to Wally World last night and bought a new Motorcraft filter. Went home and changed the filter, started the truck up and then parked it. This morining I got in and cranked her up, and still about three seconds until oil pressure was indicated. I then started reading about this filter system, and RACOR states in thier own publications that this filter system is designed for the oil to drain out of the filter into the pan AT ANY TIME THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. So, it would appear that no matter what filter you use, you are going to have no oil pressure until the system re-fills after startup. If I am wrong, I hope someone will explain it to me.
nope no anti-drain back valve...so it has to build back up pressure...by the way at wally word the fram filter 2 rows over is the same filter same brand/maker in a diff box 5 dollars cheaper....just to let you know..

Please forward the document that you are quoting above?
Where can I see it and where did you read it?
The oil stays in the housing after shutdown when using a Racor made filter. This is why the "oil change instructions" state to "pop open" the filter cap and let the oil drain down into the pan... then drain the pan... not the other way around... as 1qt of oil remains in the filter and housing if you do not loosen the oil filter cap first!!!!
I am very interested to read where you claim Racor states that the oil drains out of the housing....
Thanks,
Jeff
I have a direct # to Racor's oil guru/Ford guy
and will clarify if you can show me this statement.
Harley do you have any kind of bypass on your truck? I'm still searching for what to do in that matter. Just spent about 45 minutes on the phone with a guy from Noria (Oil analysis guru's). I have heard others mention the delay in the oil pressure startup but I have not noticed it in my 07 6.0 psd. Thanks
