Consumer declared gas war!
I guess we all could all buy Citco. "Citgo Petroleum Corporation, or Citgo, is a United States oil refiner and marketer of gasoline, lubricants, petrochemicals and other petroleum products owned by PDV America Incorporated, a subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela, the national oil company of Venezuela".
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who controls things there, is a real friend of the U.S., and he needs our money.
To save gas just don't drive as much. Do without something until you need to make a trip for several things. Eat in more ofter. Cut down on the leisure trips. (I type this as I prepare for my 1800 mile vacation in the Expedition).
We won't stop driving though. I saw on CNBC today that we are using 2% more gas now than this time last year when the price was about a dollar per gallon cheaper.
I drive very little now. My pickup hasn't been cranked in about 2 months. When I have to drive, I try to combine trips and take the Bronco II, which gets over 20 mpg.
I am sick of being ripped off too. This gas situation will hurt our economy bad before the end of the year if things don't change. You won't hear about this too much because this is an election year. The illusion of a growing, healthy economy is most important until November is past. Remember, re-election is whats most important.
I'm not being political, just stateing facts.

Try to use 10% less fuel next month. If you can't do it, try 5%. If you can cut your use even more, by all means, do it and make up for the person who can only use 5% less. This is something you can do. Email that idea to all your friends. Worst case, you and your friends save yourselves a few bucks. Sometimes sudden things shock markets.
There's no use complaining, because it won't do anything. If your daily driver gets crappy mileage, then get something else or deal with the cost of putting fuel in it. There's not much else you can do.
I just find it completely ridiculous that Ford and GM are trying to sell the consumer that an SUV that gets 22 mpg is "good" fuel economy. They need to be shooting for 30 mpg, IMHO. Try designing something a little more aerodynamic and build more 4 bangers for those just using them as people haulers and include more efficient small displacement turbo-diesels for those who need a little pulling power.
