Speedo Cable
I suspect it got too close to my exhaust pipe and that it may have even touched it but why it twisted back on itself and sanpped??
Can any of you mecahnical scholars provide some advice on avoiding this problem again?
I am planning to tie the speedo cable away form the exhaust but should a speedo cable have particular type of fastener?
LMK
Thanks

A frozen speedometer head will cause that but if yours is still free then I would suspect either a lack of lubrication or a tight bend in the housing somewhere. It's always a good idea to keep the housing away from excessive heat but I would not think that would cause the cable to break. I don't know if you have a plastic housing or the old metal type. If it's plastic look for signs of melting where it may have layed against the exhaust. That would certainly do it in. I know of no special fasteners required. The main thing is to route the housing away from the driveshaft and exhaust, don't make any sharp turns that might bind the cable in the housing, and use a liberal amount of speedometer lube on the cable...

That's what I thought... the cable housing was plastic and some of it seemed melted but I suspect the real culprit [besides me I mean
] was a kink or too tight a turn.Gerry
