hey guys. ya its mr questions again.lol. anyways, my speedo bounces bad. like a 40mph bounce. I have pulled the cable and lubed it up really good and hooked up to the speedo and my portable drill hooked to the cable, lil bitty twitch. so, I thought, maybe the speedo gear on the sending unit was bad. pulled it, its a metal gear with no visible wear. so now, I am stuck. what could it be??? coulthe speedo cable still be binding up????? I did notice that where the square shank on the cable goes into the speedo, its a lil deformed. looks like the cable should sit down in the hookup on the speedo more. would that cause the bounce????? could it not be sitting in there right and causeing it to bind up?????
What did you lube the cable with? I use #101 Lubriplate white grease just a thin coat as too much lube will give you bouncing. If you over did it or used some heavy grease flush out the cable housing and start over. If that doen't cure it, if you can get a drop of oil (machine oil) on the bushing of the magnet shaft at the rear of speedometer proper it may stop. If not there are problems in the head itself which takes someone skilled in that repair. One more thing make sure the cable has no sharp bends or kinks. Long gentle sweeps are the way to go.
You might want to double check the connection of the cable at the speedometer. If it's not tight or is just a bit crooked there, it will make the speedo jump around. I had one where the threads were tight preventing the cable to be squarely seated.
