Wow it sounds like you guys had a GREAT time! Boy I wish I could've been. Next time we'll have to have it in California. I sure would've liked to have been able to go.
And boy, JT... a $1k torque converter!? I'm jealous.
..........they said, "You've won a torque converter!" I thought they were kidding!!
Congrats JT, you lucky dog! I'm one that always get in the slowest line at the checkout, never hit a lotto, and never get my number picked at a drawing......I think someone's trying to tell me something.........
Yeah, congrats JT. That TC paid for the trip by itself and then some. I'm with guzzle, never really had much luck with those kinda things. Glad you did.
I guess when I get ready for my chip I won't be needing the 120 tune based on the numbers I've seen from those pulls. Anybody have any thoughts on that? I will still be running stock injectors, so 2 more HP does not seem worth it or am I missing something?
I'm excited about that TC. I stayed with family, so my only cost down there was fuel. And, with BTS only about 250 miles away, they were pretty minimal. The trip definately paid for itself!!
I would say, that with stock injectors and stock oil pump, the 120 setting provides no extra benefit as far as power goes. When I look at the graph of the power curves, the 120 setting is a few HP higher, but pretty much only between 2500-3000 RPM. The 100 setting is near identical. Now, if you go to bigger injectors or big oil, the higher settings will probably be more beneficial, but you've got to get your chip reprogramed for either one of those two anyway, so you could add it at that time.

There is still human input at the dyno... so it is possible that on the two runs listed for comparison (100 & 120 tune) he may not have got on the throttle as quickly or may not have kept the throttle down as long or as hard as he did on the first run @ 100 tune. Along with that the dyno is a very sobering experience for some guys as there is driveline loss (exact % can be debated) along with other factors that will limit the hp of any upgrade or mod. A 100 hp tune doesn't effectively do alot of good in our daily driving habits if to reach the maximum affect of that tune has to be at 3,400 rpms with speeds nearing 100 mph. So at a normal driving speed range taking into consideration the % of driveline loss you may only be experiencing about a 25 hp gain in a 65 -70 mph drive @ 1800-2000 rpms with the 100 tune. To many variables at play for anyone to think they will receive a full gain on any tune (40 tune or 120 tune) such as gear ratio, tire sizes, different exhaust setups and so on.
I was there at Dyno day and saw many dejected people come out of the dyno bay with their results. On the other hand those that are realistic were happy with some of their results. Although the Fords that were dyno'd seemed to be a little lower than I expected with some of the modifications that I witnessed.

If it seems that with stock injectors/HPOP that the 100 and 120 make about comparable power, and we were to only get one or the other... which makes more smoke? I'd guess the 120?

The 120 does make more smoke, but even then, it's more of a haze than a smoke -- at least once the turbo spools up. Jody's tunes just don't make smoke, they make power!!
i only got the 140 just for the smoke. it only netted me 9 hp over the 100 setting. i use the 100 when i need the power and 140 when i need the smoke. even then, it still clears up later. ive got some nasty injector plans that will make some smoke
I am thinking that when I get to calling Jody, I'll be getting 40, 80, 120 .... and ask him about a "smoke setting"... doesn't have to be powerful or quick, but it's gotta billow out the black stuff. All for show.
