First off, I just bought a 01 F350 with a 7.3 PS. It has the stock suspention and tires are just alittle over stock (285/75 r16). The problem is that between 35 an 45 mph there is a vibration in the truck. its not coming from the steering wheel but i can feel it in the seat and floor. i thought about the driveline but im not entirely sure. has anyone else experienced this. if anyone has any ideas let me know. thanks.
Curious if it is more or less severe if you accelerate faster or back off the pedal throught the speed range. Also what about just cruising between the range?
U-joint ,carrier bearing in the 2 piece drive line, also if it goes away in neutral I would suspect internal tranny or if in a coast situationin the rear diff.

Yeah it does it whether im accelerating or just letting it coast. but i really notice it when its coasting, its alot worse. ill try putting it neutral next time to see if it goes away or lessens. thanks
Don't let it go too long .I've seen the results of a drive shaft coming up through the floor boards after a u-joint breaks .not a pretty site either. get it looked at or fixed asap.

to FortyFords: I have a 05, F-250, 18k miles and it has the same vibration that wolf1104 describes. Not tire balance problem as I have had that checked twice. Feels like a washboard road at 40 to 50 mph. Not noticable at higher or lower speeds.
????? Thanks
IV crawled under the truck and checked all the ujoint and carrier for any free play. there was non what so ever. and i put it in neut. during the vibration and it stayed the same (FortyFords). so dose this mean that its probably the rear end. there is a slight howling above 30. i figured that it was the tires. good news though, i have the extended warrenty.
Lets back up here a minute Wolfe,
When you say suspension alittle above stock ,please clairify???
If you have any kind of lift in the suspension you change driveline angles, they cause vibration.Usually the center bearing needs shimed down to eliminate.
Back to problem
U-joints can look and feel fine but be stiff in certain position of its rotation causing a bind(this causes the vibration). If all other things look normal and as a last resort ,you have to pull the drive shaft and flex it by hand.If you do this please mark it so it goes back in the same place.use e-brake also.
Now is there any wetness around the pinion seal area of this vehicle?
This is a sign of something amiss within the rear diff
If you can safely raise the vehicle off the ground on jackstands or a lift you could run the vehicle up to speed and listen for noises or see if tires are out or round.
Just do it safely please.
Eliminate the easy stuff first, then do the hard.
tires balance
fortyfords when i said a little over stock i was talking about the tires. stock is 265/75 r16. i have 285/75 r16. besides that thanks for the suggestions. if i can ever get enough time i jack it up and check all that stuff out. i know that it needs to be soon though. thanks
