Hey everyone,
I have a 1999 Expedition XLT, 5.4L, 4X4 with 88,000 miles. All has been fine with the truck and tranny. Had the dealer replace the spark plugs on Monday and all has been fine the last 210 miles. Drove the truck all day today then went to go back out and BAM,,, no reverse at all. No noises before this happened, no noises when you put it into reverse, just nothing. Fluid is nice and pink, proper level, changed about 24,000 miles ago (full flush). Any ideas??? Just seems weird how it happened all of a sudden and a short time after the plug change. Any help would be appreciated.
do you have all the forward gears.if you dont i would suspect a broken sun gear shell.
Yes, all forward gears are good. Check this one out,,,,this morning the truck was perfectly normal. Drove fine in drive and reverse. I still went to the stealership for them to check but they said all was OK, couldn't find any problems. Really weird.
Well,,,,92 miles later the tranny blew. So much for the stealership doing a diagnosis and saying all is fine. Had it rebuilt by a reputable tranny shop I know and it sure was expensive. Needed a forward planetary assembly, reverse planetary assembly, solenoid switch assembly as well as the usual parts on a total rebuild. Came to $2900,,,,whew.
