Check Engine Light--Strange Code
Hello, I have a '97 Ranger with the 2.3l 4-cylinder engine and 96,000 miles. Recently the Check Engine light came on, and I stopped at the local Auto Zone store to have them hook it up to their diagnostic tester (free). The code displayed was "PO 1443" "Auxiliary Emission Control". The manager said he never heard this one before, as the codes are usually 2- or 3-digit format. He recommended taking it to the dealer ($$$$$). I tried looking up the code in my Haynes service manual and also on this forum, but to no avail. Is anyone here familiar with this code? What does it mean? Since I am down to just one vehicle right now (my commuting car is in the shop), I need to drive it 60 miles roundtrip daily. Will that be a problem? Thanks for any help you can provide.
