my truck is a 1999 f350 4x4 with the v-10, Ive been troubleshooting the dreaded miss problem and finally the truck stalls and then when restarted runs great. when trying to retrieve codes, the scanner cannot connect with ecm and there is no power at the test plug.
here's a list of what happens:
truck misses lightly,
stumbles,
then dies or sometimes only idles until accelerator is pushed then chugs w/ no power, and dies soon after.
heavy black smoke form exhaust during the chugging.
check engine light only when chugging.
fuel pressure normal and air filter is clean, new plugs installed and 1 new coil pack due to blown out plug on #5 2 weeks ago.
power to the dlc plug is now intermittent, no codes and the plugs were replaced but not stock, I just bought new ones but have no clue if that will fix it. sounds to me like a plug though.
it misses intermittently now though but since its not throwing a coil code it must be a plug or boot. any other suggestions?
Okay, its a known fact that these triton engines don't like aftermarket plugs.
we 've had many people try to use them and had the problems your having.
Bosch ,ngk and a few others i can't think of right now have caused intermitent misfires.
I'm not saying this the total problem you have.
Give it a try ,put the stock plug s(new of course) back in .
