anybody know what the knocking noise would come from while driving .sounds like something is loose maybe shocks ,tierod ends anybody have ideas on a 2001 escape driving me nuts thanks
Does it happen when turning and accelerating? Could be a broken CV joint.
Is it just happening over bumps? I've read of some other problems with tie-rod ends or something, but can't remember exactly. I've als o read about some clunking noises from some aftermarket shocks, the Monroes specifically.

just when hitting bumby roads .its not cv joints it has the orignall shocks 56,000 miles on it
Sounds like your sway bar/stabilizer links, they're a common wear item on Escapes. Lay on your back and grab hold of one then shake like heck...if you hear a slight pop then the ball joint is worn (it only sits in a nylon socket). My 02 Escape was knocking by 45k miles when going over bumps or sharp slow turns. Moog had some non-OEM ones but I could never find any in stock. The dealership charges about $12 so might as well replace both for $24 in parts. Mine were easy to change but I've heard a few heavy off-roaders that needed the nuts with new ones since they had to strip the old nuts taking them off.
My 05 Escape has a slightly redesigned links (more square than round) but I'm sure it has the non-lube nylon socket. 39k so far and they're okay.
