not so funny noise
Hello all,
Im hoping someone can identify this sound.
I have a 2002 f350 V8, after a day of driving around ( no weird noises ) I stopped off to pick up a paycheck. 15 min later jumped in the truck turned it on and had almost a moaning sound that follows intensity with rpms. Stills seems to shift fine just the noise.
Anybody? pleeeeeze help!

Here is a shot out of the blue:
Check for air leaks in the engine air inlet piping or connections.
My "gut feeling" is that you are hearing high velocity air. Because you do not mention a change in exhaust note I have to think it must be on the intake side.
Because you do not describe it as a sucking sound and the truck apparently performs normally, I am thinking it is not a vacumme leak, so it must be before the throttle body.
HTH, and holler if it doesn't.

thanks fuzz. i checked for leaks and got nuthin so i dropped it off to get looked at, and it twas the alternator. As i drove it to the shop i noticed my headlights and interior lights were not as bright so i started feeling better about it not being a tranny moan!!
