P0179 code

99 4.0 AT 2x4 threw a CE light today and when I read the code P0179 came up. Fuel consumption Circuit high input?

Translation please from someone who knows something...

You sure it was P0179? I don't believe that's a Ford code. What code reader did you use?

It's not a manufactuer-specific code for Ford, it's generic P code (Powertrain) for OBD II DTC the actual name is Fuel Composition Sensor Circuit High Input. It registers the alchohol content in the fuel.

I've heard of Ford Ranger FFVs throwing a P0176 (Flexible Fuel Sensor Circuit Malfunction) code. But never a P0179.

P0176 almost always means a bad flex fuel module. It's a Ford only part and it ain't cheap.

Yeah it's more common with Chevy S-10s for either bad gas or the sensor needing replacement.
