You sure it was P0179? I don't believe that's a Ford code. What code reader did you use?
It's not a manufactuer-specific code for Ford, it's generic P code (Powertrain) for OBD II DTC the actual name is Fuel Composition Sensor Circuit High Input. It registers the alchohol content in the fuel.
I've heard of Ford Ranger FFVs throwing a P0176 (Flexible Fuel Sensor Circuit Malfunction) code. But never a P0179.
P0176 almost always means a bad flex fuel module. It's a Ford only part and it ain't cheap.
Well I run 87 regular and its 10-11% Ethanol by state law, 1/2 a tank down from fill up at Getty (Lukoil) who may be buying on the sopt market these days due to supply costs (who doesn't?).
Anyway it threw the code AFTER I had driven in traffic for 45 min and then pulled in shut down went and got package to take to UPS and then restarted and probably abused the throttle a wee bit getting there before the afternoon pickup was made. And there she was...I keep the reader in the console so I shut down, plug in and switch on...P0197 it reads. I scan again and that's it and the only code I got. I cleared it and have driven enuff today for it to cycle and show up again but NADA.
Maybe a fluke? It is NOT a FFV Ranger/ 99 $.0 AT SC Vin "X"...
