New Turbo

A K31 turbo with a HyperMax kit is being fabbed up. After all this time it's been decided the other route would not supply the hp and drivability we were looking for. The exhaust side diameter closest to the wheel will be 3 inch to meet FPP rules for street. The compressor wheel on the the small end will be 72 mm or 2.8 inducer. Now I hope we have enough fuel.

i think you should be alright, im running an h2e with a 66mm wheel and i didnt have any problems lighting it. Im not a turbo guy, but i dont see 6mm wheel difference changing things too much unless your exhaust housing is alot bigger than what mine is. Maybe if i ever get my engine (waiting on billets) done i can get lockers and make a few pulls too. Good luck, hope to see fords at the top this year!

Have you been without a turbo since your studs went in? I'm sure you're eager to get it all back together for some test and tune.

Different note. I was reading the rules for DHRA pulling. It says that: "Two 3/8 inch diameter bolts must be placed through the exhaust pipe in a cross pattern
within one inch of each other as close to the turbo as is practical."
What is the purpose of this?

That sounds like a wicked turbo Mech!
I'll bet those bolts are to catch the big chunks if something lets go.

It's been like 911 diesel down, I miss my truck. Hope to start back together on Monday.

Well it's been a long time but it's up and running. It's raining so I can't tell you much about how it runs. More to come tomorow.

i dont know much about pulling, but im guessing that its incase the turbo explodes big pieces dont come out as easily. alot of the pullers i have noticed either have stacks or a pipe up through the hood that would cause it to shoot the parts straight into the air. like i said i dont know much about them but this would be my guess. anybody that actually knows let us know. i wandered about the same thing

Yes the bolts are to keep the pieces inside the exhaust and out of the stands.
First trip out I forgot to tighten an intercooler boot and was still seeing 30 lbs of boost. I was beginnng to think this thing was a terd. Second trip roads are still wet, 42lbs at 3/4 throttle is all I could handle. I was surprised at how well it spooled. If I wasn't so tired I'd have a big grin.

Sounds like the new turbo is working well!! Hopefully it dries out soon so you can really put the screws to it.

Well all goes south real quick. The thrust is out, it ate the comp. wheel & housing and was smoking like a red neck. It's boxed and allready on it's way back to Salt Lake City. Can you say over night I'm in a hurry!

Man, that sucks, or blows?? Hope things turn around quickly for you. I was looking forward to some video of your truck in a pull although I know that is the furthest thing from your mind right now. I know how things happen, I've been f'ing with my $800 refrigerator for the last few days which is out of warranty by 3 mos, just like your puter, right when you don't need to be bothered. Go figure.
