Window hardware
Hi all
Truck is a 68 F100, 390/T18. Wife can't sit in it any more because of the mold. Window hardware (dingus that rolls to make the windows go up and down) in both doors is frozen solid, so both windows are stuck halfway down, and have been that way for a while. Glass is fine and I could replace the channels/rubber, but the darn things just won't go up or down.
I'm thinking about re-doing the interior so we can use the truck, but it's a fruitless gesture with no working windows. I can't find the right hardware anywhere, including local boneyard. Any suggestions?

And if your wife doesn't react well to jowilker's suggestion, I guess you will have to fix the darn windows. The mechanism is very simple and I'm betting you can repair yours and avoid buying replacements. Incidentally, LMC sells the regulators new for around $70 each and roller kits for a lot less. Post if you need advice on getting in there and fixing them.

Yea, I guess liberally spraying lubricant in there might free it up but it sure will make a mess. I would take it out, clean it up, paint it, reassemble it and lube it with some white lithium grease. It will be as good as new. Failing that, have a cold one and order a new one.

Thanks guys---I have gone through the part that turns to move the arm up and down (roller? regulator? beats me) with WD40, Liquid Wrench, etc. to no avail. Whatever bearings are in there must have rusted through completely. It looks like a closed-up unit, I don't have the thing in front of me but I seem to remember it was riveted together. I may drill out the rivets and see what I can come up with.

I can order those from JC Whitney or LMC, but neither one appears to have the rolly part for the 68 year model, at least not in the 2 yr old catalogs I have.

kaulike, Don't know when you have time off, but it doesn't take a lot to remove the the complete mechanism. Get it out and on a bench or the tailgate, and I bet you can get it working again in short order.
