C6 tailshaft lengths

i was wondering what tailshaft lenghts the C6 (small block bolt pattern)were all available in. My problem is that i took the transmission out my truck and took it to a place to have it rebuilt. The place who did it said the case was cracked so they rebuilt a different one. Now it would seem that my drive shaft is a bit short and i don't have the old case to compare it to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been searching this entire network for info on short/long tailshafts to no avail. I can tell you this,I have 2 '78 4X4 PU's. One is reg cab the other is extended. The extended cab PU has about a 4 to 6 inch longer tail shaft that requires a longer adapter between the C6 tranny and my NP 205 X-Fer case. There is a difference. I have been trying to find out if I can change out the tail shafts. Does the shaft go all the way thrugh th tranny or is it splined somewhere near the back of th tranny. It's sad that a rebuilder that deals with this on a daily basis tryies to prey on the un-expected consumer that just wants the job done right the first time. Thanx for your time.

All tail shafts will interchange. You have to take the whole trans apart to get at the snap ring that holds it in.

This, or any blow-up image of a C6, shows the separation of the main case and the tail shaft housing:

What are you trying to do?
