OK someone messed with my truck...I don't know when it was or why they did it but they switched my sparkplug wires around. Lucky no damage but took me a bit to figure out what was wrong. What I was wondering was how do I go about locking my hood ...I own a 75 F-250 ..there isn't an inside latch pull on it.
I looked at the handle under the hood and thought maybe I could put some kind of plate steel down behind it and put a padlock on it ...any sugestions? pictures are worth a million
Search the salvage yards for a 1979 truck that has one. As far as I know, '79 is the only year to have this option for this generation of truck. Otherwise, try searching the sponsors for an aftermarket one.
I switched mine over to a locking hood...Never worked to good even replaced the do-hicky on the latch....So now there isnt a lever...All I have to do is pull the cable from the grill area....
My 78 has a locking hood release handle under the dash that uses the ignition key. I don’t know how tough it would be to find and install one but they did come from the factory.
I got a hood latch from a mid '80s van and used a pull cable from a '83 F150. They both bolted right in, just had to drill a hole for the cable to go through the firewall. The van latch is identical to the optional '78-79 factory pickup latch. It works great.
They offered the factory option on trucks and broncos for 78+79.The latches and keyed handles are the same, but the vans cables are shorter than the trucks and broncos.Good Luck
I had that same problem with my 78. I drilled a 1/4" hole through the top of the handle and through the supposting braket for the latch and put a pad lock on it. You have a 75 grill tho, the 78 grill has big square openings so it makes it easy to stick a pad lock in there and lock/unlock it.
Thanks for the info I am going to go tomorrow to check out the local junk yard ...wish me luck. If I can't find one there I am thinking that the padlock will work. I was looking at it and it looks like it will work with a small padlock
Heres a cheap one. My '79 F-100 came from New Jersey where they steal batterys.A 1/4inch chain was bolted to the bottom of the hood and hung down so that it could be locked to the bumper brackets. It was sort of a pain in the butt when the hood was open but the previous owner said that his battery never left again.
