intake gasket problems! help!

i have a new 400 long block, new edelbrock 400 performer intake but have the same problems. the gasket seems to want to push out on the ends (front/back). i have tightened it down to specs but the same thing happens. maybe my book is wrong on the numbers. what are the ft pounds i should be tightening it to? please help. any ideas?

Are you talking about the end gaskets that seal the valley? If so, you might consider skipping the gaskets altogether and just using a bead of RTV.

E'brock highly recommends discarding the end seals and using RTV to seal the ends of the manifold.

I just used RTV in place of the end gaskets and have had no problems.

That's what I've done also, put the manifold on while the RTV is still wet, give it 24 hours & you'll have no problems. Obviously put a thick enough bead on so it will "squish" out slightly.

Make sure your manifold is machined to fit your engine after block and head modifications.

I threw away the end gaskets and used a 1/4" bead of a sealer called "Right-Stuff" on each end. No leaks.
