greetings,
just took delivery of my first PSD yesterday, and everyone is telling me I must get a downloader for this thing. The majority seem to recommend Bullydog. My question that no one can answer is, will this void my warranty? The truck only has 24k miles on her and I would hate to do something stupid. thanks.

No.. you DO NOT HAVE to get one. Are they nice? YES! But they CAN Void your warranty, so be careful. If you get one, take it out before you go i for service, but there is NO guarantee they will not find out.
Also if you get one, get gages also.
I had one in my 02 7.3L and I loved it, had it in for over 60,000 miles and no problems.
I just purchased an new 06 and as of right now, IM not going to get one, will I change my mind in the future? can not say I will or will not.

Welcome to FTE . I personally won't get one because of the warranty problems if one should arise. Most 05/06 problems are programmer related . . There is alot to read on here about the subject and you will get a bunch of differnt opions. Looks like you bought a used PSD with 24k I would wait and see if any problem pop up before I did anything . Unless you know the history of the truck and has been problem free. Get to know the truck and read the owners manual. There is alot of question you can answer yourself by going over it.
i have this same question... except i have a 03 King Ranch CC SB 9" lift on 38's... but i have stock gears.. 3.73's... i'm planning on 4.56's this summer.. but i want to get a flashpaq from superchips... is it a bad idea to put a tuner on my truck while i still have the stock gears.. ?? what would the ill effects be?

How are you going to use your truck? Towing/Hauling? Are you going to race it from stoplight to stoplight? At the dragstrip? Do you want to make it smoke? Do you want to give it every chance to provide the most reliable service possible?
Run it for awhile and see how you like it stock. I replaced a V10 and I'm pretty satisfied with the stock 6.0L I'm not saying that I'll never own a tuner but read around here for awhile. (And take a lot of it with a grain of salt ) The general conscensus is that there are a LOT of potential problems/failures that are certainly made worse by modding/rodding them. Warranty IS an issue. Even though your service provider is OK with whatever you do to it, many are x'celling warranty with any hint of tuner. Despite what you may read about Magnusson/Moss.
I would make sure you get a tunner that will be able to change the tire size and gears. SCT makes custom tunes and should be able to do that but would check to make sure.

Just so you know, Bullydog's "try before yu buy" leaves a footprint in the stock program.
The other major brand tuners (to the best of my knowledge) do NOT.
If you are gonna work your truck I would recommend you leave it stock. We have an 05 F-450 and bought it to work and haul. It has had issues since 5000 miles and we pull the engine Moday with only 18,000 miles on it.

I agree then once you feel comfortable with it then you decide if you want to get a tuner. I wouldn't let anyone tell you, you HAVE to get one though.
Add me to a very long list of very satisfied 6.0 owners!!!
thanks for all of the great replies. I have decided not to tune but I am lifting monday and adding 35" BFGs. I would like to reprogram speedo and monitor temps and such. Would a product like the outlook monitor satify that?
