E350 IDM MODULE & SUPERCHIP
This is my first time to this site and possilby someone can help me. I have a 2000 E350 Diesel Van with the 7.3L power stroke diesel. A couple of months back my engine light started flashing and would shut down the engine intermittently and so I took the van to the local Ford dealership who traced the problem to a faulty IDM Module and replaced it. They also said that the superchip that was attached may also have had something to do with it. I did not realize I even had a superchip in the van being that I purchased it second hand. Nonetheless the IDM was replaced and the van started to do the engine light flashing and intermittent shutting down thing again, so I took it back to the dealership who now traced the problem to a faulty PCM and replaced that as well. And so my question is this! Did the dealer need to replace the IDM even though it did not correct the original problem until the PCM was replaced on the second visit? The dealer did not recommend pulling out the IDM because they felt the new PCM could be fouled or vice versa. And yes, the engine light & engine shutting down problem was fixed but my van's performance seems to have been dramatically reduced. The van seems to struggle and take longer to shift out of first gear then in time past. The mechanic seems to think that it shifts fine but I'm not so sure. The dealer recommended that I not put the superchip back into the van as this could void the warranty on the IDM & PCM. I suppose if this did not cost me over $2000.00 Canadian to get this work done I could live with the Van's lower level of performance but I can not help but wonder if the IDM replacement was necessary and if the removal of that superchip would be why I feel the van is not shifting and taking off as smoothly out of first gear?
Thanks in advance for any tips and/or comments!

That Superchip that they removed is designed to enhance the performance of your engine. More HP and torque. Now that they have removed the chip, your engine is putting out the factory amount of power. It's the way that Ford designed it, the way that you have it right now.
I recommend that you linger and read a lot of the posts that come through here on FTE. There's a lot of guys here with automatics that have upgraded thier valve bodies and other stuff to make it work better.
Hang around here for awhile and we'll probably save u lots of cash in the future
especially if your handy with a wrench.
