I am getting ready to install my SPA dual gauge and was wondering if I could install the sending unit in the air intake heater hole?
I live in SE Texas so cold is not really a problem, however I do intend to do some travelling as this will be my tow vehicle. I realize some modding the plug I bought for the hole would be neccessary but wanted to know if that location would be ok.
I don't think that fitting will work with the SPA gauge as it is a digital gauge and not mechanical. That fitting is prepped for 1/8 in tubing not for the sending unit with the SPA gauge.
Ok - I drilled out the AIH plug that I bought and tapped it with what I think is an 1/8 NPT( couldn't read the tap as it was slightly rusted) but the threads on the tap and the threads on the sending unit matched. I thread the SU into the tapped plug and it rolls in with no bind but it looks like it is spinning on crooked. Also it does not get tight until it bottoms out. I then read/found the directions for the install and they call for 1/8 BPT threads. Anybody heard of the BPT thread? I know NPT is National Pipe Thread. I will do a search for it.
OK- I checked it out and it seems that BSP is some sort of British Standard thread and has a slightly different pitch or one less thread or something but I guess that means I need a new plug to drill out and tap. Anybody need one with NPT thread for use with a Mechanical gauge? Maybe I should read the instructions first next time.
