unintended acceleration ?
Monday the wife was backing up our 94 Explorer to align with the garage door when the throttle opened on its own and went about 30 feet before hitting and totaling my 63 Falcon project. The Explorer left skid marks from the front tires in the gravel from the time it left the concrete until it stopped against the Falcon where she turned off the ignition. $4000 plus damage to the Explorer and guess what the dealer says happened? You got it, her fault for hitting both pedals. Not likely as she is very familiar with the car and it is actually difficult to do as the brake pedal is so much higher than the throttle pedal. She says it happened on the street a week earlier making a turn after a stop sign but it returned to normal before there was an incident. I have done some searching but have not found a case of this problem on a later model Explorer. Anybody else heard of this?
THere are well documented cases of various other vehicles having problems with the electronic throttle... I am not a fan of them myself, and do not see what purpose they serve. THe dealer could be right about hitting both pedals.. this was common in Jeep Grand Cherokees because of the pedal placement.. but I can't see it happening in an Explorer, at least not on my '02.
