No worries Mike, Don't mind if ya Hijack! lol

Sorry I havent responded quicker. For some reason, it never emailed me to notify me.

Thanks for clearing up that there is no PSOM on these style trucks. Would the O/D light indicate that the VSS is probably bad? Or would it also flash if the instrument cluster module was bad also?

Let me chime in with my 2 cents. On occasion a cop can go bad in a way as to spike the pcm when it malfunctions causing all the symptoms described. Depending on how bad the miss you get is will determine if it can be narrowed down to a cylinder.

Option a, bring it to a shop that can do a power balance test on the engine, when the misfire occurs they should see the cylinder#.

Option b, purchase 1 or 2 new cop's (preferably oem ford) and rotate them through the engine until the problem goes away.

Now a real good shop should have a computer hook up to determine which cops are bad or misfiring.
Mike when you changed the vss sensor did you reset your pcm by unhooking the battery to alow the pcm to relearn and clear any codes?
was your old sensor covered in grayish particles ?

Rich
Took the SD to a different shop today. At first, they did not get any codes at all even while feeling the miss. They were starting to think tranny trouble, when they finally got a code. It (whatever "it" was) pointed to ALL the cops acting up, according to the tech. They wanted to keep it over night and try again tomorrow.

This is starting to get real old.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Mike

You said one cop was "rusty" if so was it the 4 cop? if so check your heater hose for a leak. Also was the plug clean or fouled from not firing?

3 COPs ended up being bad. The local dealership replaced 6, 7, & 8. Only two showed codes to begin with. They replaced 6 & 8, then 7 started giving codes.

I only had to sell one child to pay for the service. We get her back after seven years of servanthood.
