Cool HELP!Overdrive light blinking and shifting bad

Ok it's my first post so go easy. I have searched for 2 days trying to solve my problem. I got in my truck 2 days ago and went to drive away. I noticed right away that first gear toppped out at about 3500 before shifting, and also noticed that my overdrive light was flashing. I have a 95 Bronco with a e4od tran. Also my speedo doesn't work. I changed the vss out with one from a used f 250 with the same result. So then i pulled codes and got 452 twice, which is computer detected and error in the vss or psom signal during last 80 warm ups. So i called ford and they said the psom has nothing to do with the problem i am having. I am at the end of my ropes. I can't take looking out the window at my truck and not being able to drive it. Also one more thing, the abs was always turned on after i hit first gear, but now it just stays on, and all the gears are harsh shifts.

Sounds like the VSS, are you sure the one from the F250was good? Also check the wiring to the VSS as well. It unheard of to have a short or open wire on these.

Was there any metal chunks or shavings on the end of the sensor when you pulled it out? That can screw it up sometimes.

Actually yes, small metal shavings. I cleaned the original off and put it back in with the same result. I then cleaned the one from the 250 before i put it in and it still didn't work.

Huh. A few small shavings is pretty normal. I'm still thinking something either with the VSS or wiring. Maybe someone else will chime in with something else.

I know, i think i've stumped everyone. Even the ford mechanics were confused. They told me to bring it to a trannie shop, but it feels as though the truck doesn't know when to shift. I feel that if it was a trannie issue it would shift at the normal rpm but still shift hard.

driving it like that wont hurt anything. mine is doing something similar but my od light doesnt flash. I would replace the rear sensor on the diff with a new one. most shops will tell you its a rear abs sensor just so you know.

Thanx i apreciate any info. I might jump the wires back to the firewall to see if the wires are bad.

Replace sensor. IMHO Used one could be bad? According to my buddy at the ford dealer, they are known to go bad often. Knock on wood, only repaced my '96 once.

damn, welcome to the wonderful world of the e4od. I had such nightmares with mine, I finally got pissed off enough to dump the entire truck for an older one with a c6.

I'd take it to a trans shop, but be careful, find one that specifically works on e4od's, as they love to tell you you'll need a rebuild.....and you're not walking for less than 2k
