What's up with your frame? Most of the parts on my '48 are either gone, or will be gone soon, I should be down to a bare frame in the next week or two, other than surface rust and some BS SBC mounts welded in, it should be a good runner.
You figure out a way to get it from me to you, and you can have it. Otherwise it's going on top of my "frame trailer".
#'s on the firewall are 721D3143 NOTE: the D actually looks like a backwards C so I'm guessing here. It could be a 0. Not sure. OR, the 1 I got in front of the D could be the other line making it a D. Make sense? It seems a little far away to be that but I really don't know.
97HC 200931 ATL
9 = 1949/50 Model Year
7H = Flathead 6 cylinder
C = F1 (1/2 ton)
200931 = Sequence #
Based on the sequence # I'd have to say it is early to mid 1949.
721D3143 or 72D3143
7 = Meadow Green (possibly but not 100% certain)
21 = Possibly the date of the month your truck was built.
D = April Build date
3143 = most likely a sequence # for the plant.
My best guess is that your truck was built in April 1949 based on the "D". Not 100% sure of the exact date but my best guess on that would be either the 4/2, 4/21, or 3. Mostlikely 4/21/49. In my collection of these VIN #'s, I have another one built in Atlanta. VIN # 97HC 214531 was built in Atlanta on 6/10/1949 so the April build date for your truck seems to reasonable.
This information and a couple of bucks will buy you a bottle of pop but I find it interesting. Hope you find it of some value of interest and thanks for adding your information. Please ask questions, We are all here to help.
Another little piece of trivia for you. VIN # 97HC 200962 was a Panelwagon last known to be in Southeast Oklahoma. It showed up for sale on ebay back in January and has a Chrylser front suspension and engine/tranny combo. No idea where that truck was built. Anyhow, good luck with yours.
BTW, I had my wife take my original gas tank to a local radiator shop to get it cleaned(it is BAD!!!!) and they can't do anything with it. Any suggestions????
I still have the original out of mine that was in great shape when I took it out. I swapped it out for a 1970 Mustang 22 gallon tank that sits between the frame rails behind the rear axle.

I remember that truck. Did it end up selling? Last I recall it had not met the reserve. I had thought about trying to talk my dad into bidding, but I wasn't very sure about the truck.

Not certain if it sold or what may have happened to it.
Welcome, or should I say "HUA!" I'm from the other side of the tracks (Navy Air) but same side of the flag, good to have you aboard. I think there is an Air Force or Air Guard guy around, too (Jet Jock, I believe). Anyway, I have a '48 F-1 with a 350 and use it daily. Enjoy that ride to CO, drove mine here from Washington a few years back and my arm got tired waving "hi" to every other car and especially the truckers in the mountains. What a ride!
