Is this really a revelation to you, or are you being funny?

No, I'm too cynical when it comes to these magic bullet claims. I always think it's just another scam, so I wasn't sure if you actually spent money on it or were trying to be funny.

Yea, if ANY of these products actually worked, manufacturers would figure out a way to build it into their cars right off the line. With CAFE standards getting tighter, a 'cheap' fix like this would become a standard feature overnight.

Instead, you see manufacturers going back to good 'ol better engineering to get increased fuel economy.

i have tried all those but the "FitchFuelCat " is still installed on the X. i am to big to remove it myself and lack of knowlege and got lots of quotes to remove it including hardware that will needed to replace in it spot cheapest i have found was 200 before tax! So with that being said i rather keep it. its not hurting anything. maybe just maybe cutting down on the CO2 but thats it.

thanks for asking!

Look at it this way brother. None of that crap gets passed our BS meter here at FTE, so if you don't see it being used or widely touted here, it's almost guaranteed it'll be a waste of money.

So now FTE can not only save you money with repairs, but it can save you from yourself when you wanna spend money on questionable products claiming better fuel mileage.

The old addage, your right foot is the best MPG saver is true.

Other ways to save is just basic maintenance.

If you want the real deal on how to optimize your mpg these guys are pathological about fuel economy and you will be amazed at some of the modifications they actually implement.

If there was an easy, cheap device you could bolt onto a car to increase power or MPG, in most cases, if there wasn't an NVH or durability trade off, the manufacturer would have done it. Especially true for MPG these days.

The easier "mod" you can do to save gas is to modify your driving habits... read up on "hypermiling." I can get 22 mpg or greater, though its more stressful to drive that way and it requires concentration.

tornados can really increase your MPG, I've seen them pick up trucks and move them a half mile or no using no gas at all.

If you want to save mpg in your truck there are some time tested mods that have been proven to work.
1) lighten your truck as much as you can. Ditch the full size spare. ditch the third row, maybe even the second one if you aren't using it. Drop the hitch if you don't use it. You can go as crazy as you can stand.
2) streamline the truck. Install an air dam on the front to cut air from underneath. Consider a lowering kit. Remove the antenna and remove the mirrors or replace them with smaller ones.
3) install numerically lower, higher gears. The engine will operate at a lower rpm at cruise and therefore save fuel. This may not save gas if you tow but will work for cruising.
4) install thin, hard street tires and keep them inflated to the max.

But honestly... at the end of the day, drivng style will still dictate your mileage. and either way, youre still driving a 7k lb truck. You could spend $3,000 on fuel cats, tornados, and all kinds of gimmicks trying to save a couple mpg... and these days that $3000 is enough to get a 2001 Ford Focus 5 speed in decent shape that gets 35 mpg.
