Electric Choke Question

I have been having carb problems with my '71 F250 and am giving up trying to save the original Motorcraft after several failed repairs and rebuilds. I have an old Holley with an electric choke sitting around from a prior '71 F250 I once owned. I don't remember how the wiring was set up for the electric choke, though. I assume it is to be connected to an ignition hot source. Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks

Electric Choke Question

Yeah it's gotta be hooked up to something hot when the key is in the ON position only, it must be 12 volts.

You can splice into the red/green stripe wire on the ignition switch "C" terminal (don't go for the pink one, it's the resistor wire) or if you got an amp meter just splice into the green/red stripe wire on the "S" terminal of the voltage regulator.

Electric Choke Question

I just put a Holley electric choke cap on a 2100 carb. I connected it to the stator terminal of the alternator. This runs it at 7 volts. I compared it to operating at 12 volts. It is slower on 7v, I liked that better. :7

Really?! I've tried it and it never opened up fully when it was on the index. Had to adjust it so it barely closed when cold outside.

Electric Choke Question

I lubed all the linkage real good. Seems like all the stock Ford manuals that I have seen had the choke connected to the stator. Will keep checking it. Regards, Mike

Electric Choke Question

Yeah the Ford electric chokes hooked up to the stator but they were designed for 7 volts. It was an electric assist to speed up the pull-off rate. You still used the old-fashoned heat pipes from the exhaust manifold for the main choke heat though.

Hey but if yours works more power to ya!
