Sudden rough idle

My truck is a 04 Lariat Screw with 17,600 miles. Lately it is idling rougher at idle. I was wonderieng if it is the air filter. Is anyone else having this problem and changing air fileters frequently? Does anyone recommend the K&N air intake for gas mileage and performance?
