My truck still had the stock lid with the square in it. Since then, I have only been able to get filters with the lid built onto it. All those I have gotten have like a star shape on top that still accomodates the 1/2" drive. the first time I took it off, it was too tight that the lid was starting to crack. that is when i had to have someone gently tap it with a hammer while i was turning it.
Very possible I had a non-stock one, without the square drive in it. Or Ford, in all their wisdom, had different designs.
That would make sense. Depending on where and when the truck was built, the assembly plants could very well have different suppliers for some of the smaller more generic parts. But, that's just a guess.
Like a big dummy when I changed my filter, I either didn't realize that the lid came off, or I had one that DIDN'T come off...but I bought a filter with the lid on it....now I see them from Fleet filters without the lid and they want $16.49 for a single lid....Does anyone know where I might get a replacement lid?? Thanks for any help....Dave
That's a pretty good price for the fuel filter lid. If you want any cheaper start combing the junkyards. But there's a good chance you'll spend that much in fuel just hunting down the cheapest lid.
