This might be a stupid ?...but here it goes. I have never changed the fuel filter in my truck. Not sure how to do it. Do I have to drain the canister before taking the lid off? Or can I just unscrew the lid take out the old filter and put the new one in and screw the lid back on.
Thanks
I would say it would probably be smart to drain it first if the drain is clear. Remove the cap and see what's in there. You don't want crap getting in when the filter is removed, so drain the canister before you put in the new filter. When I bought mine the drain was stuck and plugged. I sucked it out with a syringe. Amazing how much crap was in the bottom of that canister. Then I rinsed it out with fuel once the drain was open.
Also, if there is a lot of crud in the bottom and you want to remove the stand pipe to get to everything the stand pipe is a LEFT HAND THREAD.
Use a crows foot to remove it.
On the passenger side of the fuel filter there is a yellow lever that moves 1/4 of a turn. Turn the lever and hopefully the filter will drain. You should have a large container beneath the engine, front passenger area.
No you donot have to prime but if you have some clean fuel handy it's a good idea to pour some in the bowel with the new filter.
