OIL Consumption

Hi All.............I have a 2003 with 85,000 miles on it and I am using between 4 and 7 quarts of 15 w 40 Rotella T oil every 5000 miles. I don't do any heavy pulling and most of the miles are highway. Ford reviewed this and said its normal but I call International and the said 2 quarts every 5000. Any one else having this type of oil usage??? My 97 stroke had over 250,000 miles and didn't even use 1 quart. I feel FORD is blowing oil up my rear on this one???

wow. that is alot of oil to be burning. ideally about .5-1 quarts per change would be right. i would suspect an internal leak, if you have no external leaks. what color is the coolant? if it has a milky tint to it, i would suspect that oil is gettting into the coolant. since oil pressure is greater than cooling pressure, it will ALWAYS go into the coolant, not oil. if that is all good, i would check for oil in the intake. i would recommend doing the CCV mod, and then clean out all oil from that in the intake. if it still has oil accumulating in the boots before the intake, then i would suspect the turbo passing oil. if there is oil or excessive blue smoke, i would see if the exhaust side of the turbo is passing oil. good luck.

I normally need just over a quart of oil every 5000 miles. 160,000 miles and mixed driving. That does sound like quite a bit of oil you're losing.

Their are no external leaks and no excessive smoke issues. I also think it is blowing out the turbo charger but according to Ford it is normal which really upsets me because this is my 12 th Ford truck. I told the rep today if they don't stand behind this, I'll be in a duromax next month. I thought the rings on one of the pistons might be alligned allowing blow by?? Oh well

Pop the oil fill cap off with the engne warm and at idle to check for a blow by issue.

I'm no mechanic and there are many on here that know much more than I do but, that much oil is anything but normal.

Stay tuned to this site as someone will have an answer to your problem.

I not a mechanic by any means but its an insult to be told that using that much oil is normal. I might look dumb but I'm really not.
