Fuel filter lid!!!!

Went to change my fuel filter and it seems I bought the filter without the lid and my old lid won't work because it has the screen on it. does anyone know where I can get a OEM lid or know the part number?? or even better would anyone trade me my lid with the screen on it for their old one?? thank you so much

What would be wrong with just getting a filter from Ebay or Autozone with a lid already attached ?
eBay Motors: 99-04 Ford 7.3 diesel fuel water filter(2) Fram CS8629A (item 170300253781 end time Mar-07-09 10:18:20 PST)

Here is a lid on EBAY.. eBay Motors: Ford F250 F350 F450 F550 7.3 Diesel Fuel Filter Cap (item 310118887431 end time Feb-26-09 21:30:12 PST)

You can't change out the lid for lid on these. I sometimes get the filter with the lid and sometimes not. I do have my OEM lid for when I get just the filter. It depends on which filter you get. This is crazy.

I'm not sure what you mean about screen either. Just take the filter you got back and get the one with the lid if that's what you need.

Wow I have never heard of this. I always buy the motorcraft fuel filter that does not come with a lid.

You are so right Ron. The filter with the lid is the only one that has ever blown the gasket. And when the gasket blows, you have fuel flying all over the place.

I know guys at work that we all chip in and buy a dozen filters at once (no lids) We get a smokin deal this way. And there are guys that don't have a problem with the filters that have lids. (they lost there caps). I run either, or... I had trouble with my factory lid before so i think it equals out.

well what i had before is a filter that goes in and then the cap is seperate with the "shroud" connected on it. on the OEM stuff the "outside shroud" is connected to filter and not the cap. I'm kind of trying to go back to OEM was hoping someone had the stock oem cap but if not I guess I'll have to buy the crap from autozone again. I'd like to buy something better aftermarket speaking but I need something quick.

The last time I changed mine I got the type with the lid because I didn't know what kind was on the truck (luckily I had the OEM lid). I tried this method and fuel went everywhere. But I tightened it down some more and everything was fine.

Me TOO!

I have seen the w w/o lid issue and never understood. I was concerned about the micron size of the filter media and the impact on Injector pump so I have always stayed with Motorcraft.

One side bar. I was given a FRAM aircleaner for the 7.3 from a friend who sold his truck. I had a motorcraft in mine and it was time to change so I installed the FRAM. What I immediately noticed was the Fram thickness was about 1/2 that of the motorcraft or about 1/2 the total filter surface. You can easily see this on the store shelf if you have the Ford filter in hand and the fram in the other. Guess Fram isn't
