I woke up this morning to go to work, and could not get my truck to start. I've tried 4 times now to get it started, but it will not start. It cranks and cranks. I'm not getting any smoke at all, I usually get white smoke in the mornings. It was plugged in all night so it would start easily. It ran fine yesterday. Any ideas? Thanks
how long does the glow plug light stay on? Are you in a cold climate? Could be bad fuel pump or fuel filter clogged, among other things. No smoke could indicate you're not getting fuel to the cylinders which to me would indicate bad fuel flow, so like I said, try the fuel filter or fuel pump. If your filter hasn't been changed in awhile change it anyway. Have someone crank the motor while you press in on the fuel valve (on filter housing, looks like a tire valve) Press it in with a small screwdriver while someone cranks motor, you should get fuel coming out, if not, replace fuel pump
have someone help you ... open the hood while someone is cranking the engine and YOU press in the shrader valve on the fuel filter housing to see if the lift pump is working. If you get fuel there, crack one of the injector lines and see if you get fuel there. If no fuel there, have someone work the key and listen at the injection pump for the on/off switch to be working. Just because you plug in the block heater doesnt mean it is working. Do you hear the water start to heat when first plugged in? Also sounds like you got a bad glow plug system. One or two plugs will give a hissy fit to the start in the a.m. If the whole system is goofy, it is next to impossible with out block heater assist. Report back with your findings with above mentioned items.
Glow plugs were just replaced 2-3 months ago. They work, just not very well. I have to cycle the plugs 2-3 times to get it started if it sits all day long. I know the heater works, because it starts on the 3rd or 4th crank in the morning after it has been plugged in, otherwise it will crank for 15-20 seconds, after cycling the glow plugs. If I don't cycle the plugs, I might as well forget starting it. I'll try replacing the fuel filter. Does this truck have a mechanical lift pump, or is it electric? I was looking on autozone's website, and it has a fuel pump relay listed, could this be the problem? Is the fuel pump they have for sale what I would need for my truck? If not, where would I get the fuel pump? I use my truck for work daily, so I need to get it fixed quickly. Thanks
check the fuel shutoff on the IP see if the wire going to it has power. Being your from Ohio and the weather warmed up to 70 today it should fire right off if the GP system worked at all. Wonder if the GP system took a vacation and quit.

I picked up a new fuel filter tonight, haven't had a chance to work on it yet, as the weather here has been pretty nasty (rain). I did check the schrader valve, and I do have fuel flowing freely there. I will change the filter tomorrow, and will check for power at the ip. Thanks
Update;
I changed the fuel filter today, after finding the one autozone sold me was not the correct one. They sold me a fuel filter that needed a separate water separator screwed to the bottom of it. The one was was already on the truck was from napa, so I went there and got a new one, it has the fuel/water separator built on the bottom of it. Evidently it was plugged up, because the truck starts and runs just fine now. Thanks for the help.
