I'm buying a Dana 44 from a 78-79 F150 it's been gutted... My Question is can I use the hubs from a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck... Reason for doing so, I'm mating it with a 6 or 8 lug Dana 60, for a rock crawling Jeep...
Well, if you swap the knuckles out from the 3/4 ton as well, you get flat top knuckles and can do crossover/high steer.
Wheres the beef? Knuckles. . .brakes are dual piston 1 ton jobbers. . .hubs are 8-lug, but are 1/2 ton internals and bearings. Big reason to go 8 lug up front is for the flat top knuckles and big brakes and/or to swap an 8 lug rear in without having to carry 2 sets of spares (5 and 8 lug).

just curious about progress on this as i want to do this in the near future. going to be putting a dana 60 under my 12/78 f150 and change the front to 8 lug. i have 79 3/4 ton donor diffs. its my understanding that the ball joints are the same. now will my 79 f150 steering or tie rods fit the 3/4 ton flat top knuckles so i could make the high steer another project at a later date? also if a stub axle from a full time 4x has the circlip groove further inboard than a stub from a regular 4x stub, does it need to be changed to the latter? out of curiosity is a 74 f100 4x dana 44 housing worth using? its only 2 and 3/4 inches outer dia. radius arm mount looks to be located different. any more insight on this axle?
