I got the ok to spend about $200 to upgrade the amp and sub in my wife's Navi. The local stereo shop said a JL 8W0 would fit and the amp they had in mind would also fit in the factory location. Does anyone know if i can get a better sub than that JL to fit and what issues I might have with the installation. I also was hoping someone would have all the dimentions of the amp too, so I know what I can put in there.
I think you are a little confused about the way this is set up. The factory Sub consists of an Amp that is mounted to the enclosure. It is very small compared to an aftermarket amp. The enclosure will handle an 8" sub all day long. You will need to mount the amp somewhere in the side panel. There is some room there but you will have to be selective.
I wondered if it was one of those tiny things. There room in the side panel for an amp? I was considering the Directed Audio 250D. Any idea if an 8W3 will fit?
Well, after hearing very good things about them, I went with an Elemental Designs 8". I'm more about sq than spl and these are supposed to be very good. I just hope I don't have to do much for modding to get it in.
When I replace the factory subs in the Explorer and Expedition I use a heat gun and heat the enclosure enough to then push the back of the box out some. This will allow clearance for your subwoofer.
I don't have a heat gun, but someone on here cut the hump off and dynomatted both sides of the hole. If I can't figure out how to heat it, I'll just try the dynomat trick.
One question I have...How much wire will it take to run from the battery to the stock location of the amp, assuming it follows all existing wire channels (From the battery, across the firewall, through the driver's side firewall to the second row seating, back to the passenger side to the amp). Lots of zig zaging.
I've also read in a few places, that the signal going to the amp is very low and not high enough a signal for an after market amp. Should I just put an LOC on the front channel?
