Even tho an overload is legal on private property it can still get you or others killed. It is not safe. Get the proper equipment to do the job.

Have you ever weighed a cord of wood??????????????? A WET cord of wood is 1 ton maybe 2200lbs at best (and yes, wet wood DOES weigh more than dry wood) and a dry cord is more in the 1800-1900lbs range. I hauled and sold wood for quite a while and I know for a fact that a cord of wood doesn't weigh anywhere near 3 tons (6,000 pounds).

Count on about 1 ton per cord.

I'll be 100% honest with you Zulu, I don't know too much about stock 70's trucks in terms of weight capacity. My experience is more for upgrading to play in the mud. But I do know what wood weighs and I do know that a cord of wood is nowhere near 6 tons. Given the weight that I posted sombody here should be able to give you some good advice on a truck haul it around. FWIW I'd just look for an old F350.
