Yeah an F250 would be the biggest you could go in 70-75 and still be 4 wheel drive. Don't know how well it will pull 20,000lbs. unless you have some pretty low gears like 4.56s and a hot motor and a 4 speed.

An F-250 pulling or hauling 20,000 lbs bring to mind horific thoughts...
]
Broken, or bent springs, axles, bent frames, exploding tires... Just because you may be able to stack 2 cord in a pickup bed, does not mean it's a good idea.

1 cord of wood is aproximatly 3 ton, depending on type, if it's wet wood or dry. so to do what you describe you need something that can haul at least 6 ton.

An F-600 at minimum. F-700 and up prefered. Get a deisel engine and it would be smog exempt, even for 80's models. A truck this big even in a gas engine wouldn't have any smog in it at all, at least until the mid 80's or so. So if it ran good it would pass an inspection anyway.

Your thoughts are contradicting the reality of what will work

The previous posts have qualified that

Keep your expectations somewhere in the real world, at least somewhere within the known universe...

An F600 and up is required. I would like my F150 4x4 to pull a 50,000# trailer up a winding mountain road at 75MPH with two cords of firewood and 36 sacks of concrete mix in back and make 22MPG too... -But it ain't happening

Talking thx for the info

cool feedback lol don't know tell ya ask hahahah.
ok can't pull that much ( how much can it pull) my friend put's 2 1/2 cords of dry wood in his f250 4x4 no problem going up the those crazy mountain road's
OK well a f600 or 700 w 4X4 cost new over 50k without even sneezing.
Insurance, down payment, monthly payment's ok well the new biz now has a big red neg, wasted money could be put into property, better on taxes.
However when the biz is in the clear this is a much better choice when you do the # http://www.unimogtrucks.com/ 3 way dump.
The byproduct of this wonderfull adventure will be a nice f250 built by my new found sister & her husband, she has been waiting to see me since she was ten, forty years.
What news I got a sister, they been doing body work for 30 years, all parts @ cost, labor is free. I 'am spending the $ from the savings of not having those extra monthly payment's on a nice ranch for my long lost family.
PS I deliver 2 cord's of firewood in my 1955 chev 1 ton dump six cly, don't go up those crazy hill's but it works in town. Stay tuned for the calender spread on the 55

What about an M35a2 Duece and a half? They can be found for under $5000 and can carry 10,000 lbs in the bed (highway rating). Plus they are all wheel drive. Just a thought.

What are you calling a cord of wood?

From my knowledge, a cord of wood is 4ft, x 4ft x 8ft. I would like to know how you could get 2 cords of wood (aproximatley 8ft x 8ft x 8ft) into a standard pickup bed.

No matter how much you can pile in a truck bed and move you must keep the truck within the GVWR for safe operation. Exceeding the GVWR is a real safety hazard and can get you and others on the road killed. It can also get you locked up and in a heap of legal trouble.

He must mean RICKS of wood.... or maybe a FACE CORD (which would be ~1/4 cord).

How much do you really think you will need to pull? Maybe a one ton might be better for your needs. You can get 78-79 F350 4x4 although they are a quite hard to find and not always cheap either, but would make an awesome rig

That's right torque, however I'am talking private ground, were owners need to get the wood to other part's of there property. Example one customer has a 1000 acre perserve
& we need to move 132 cords of wood. The roads on this private ground are the best due to the grants he has recieved, not all people can be so lucky.
