I have a much smaller hole, all right, front passengers side of the roof right in the corner above the drip rail.
Is there a patch panel anybody makes for this spot? I have no trouble with just putting pieces of sheet metal but in a round coner like that someone would have to pre-form it for me.
dude if the hole in the roof is as small as you say then just hit it with a mig on a low setting then hammer the weld flush to the roof line, grind, putty, prime, paint. if your unsure about your metal fab skills then pop the headliner and put a piece of 20guage behind the bad spot and weld it up from the outside....as the weld is made the metal will get hot enough to form the steel with little effort. think about it, make a plan, have everything ready to go and do it, bodywork isnt that hard, unless you want a magazine quality ride.
The hole is about an inch long and 1/4 inch wide. Have not dug it up, it might get bigger. I would want to cut the cancer out completely before welding, so I expect the hole to be about 1x3 at the most. I guess I will have to beat a panel round and put it in from the backside. Then massage it into shape so I am under 1/8th of an inch on filler. That will do. Sure will be better than just bondo.
Thanks for the encouragement. And yes, aftera all it is 'just' a pickup truck!
