from what i have seen/heard/read in the book. Ford says not to open the pumpkin/chagne the fluid unless its leaking. But I have heard of the ls not working properly when the fluid in it is not any good. As for the power steering no clue. 50,000 miles is very low to be havin differential problems and power steerin problems.

apower97 the 8.8 open is the standard diff. yes even on the 4x4's. Im not sure but i think the ls is pretty much standard equipment on the 5.4 I think.

And i figured out the U-joints that should be pretty simple. But what exactly would I have to do step by step to
a. replace the guts of my pumpkin with a ls?
b. replace the entire rearend?
c. or where could I find a guide on how to do this?
