Its like the old saying.....the right tool for the job makes it all better!
The more tools I have in my box the better I feel.......I am down to two large rollaway's right now, and they are filled will all sorts of tools and diagnostic equipment that may only get used once a year or so if that....but that dont make me want them any less. I have found that ebay can be a good place to buy second hand and new Snap-On, MAC, or Matco tools at deep discount......I do get carried away sometimes though.
Hi there. I had the same problem. The Napa tool does not fit well. So I spread it open and only stuck one half of the tool into the connector and, whala! Off in a jiffy. You may have to rotate the tool a bit. By the way, stick the tool in, and pull the line off with the tool inserted. Also, NEVER NEVER NEVER do this without depressurizing the fuel line. If you don't you will get high pressure fuel in your face and you will NOT walk away a happy camper!!! No worries...This is easy. You do this by removing the passenger side kick panel on the wall next to your right foot, and in the front of the kick panel on the fire wall is a switch with a gray connector plugged into the bottom of it and a red button on top of it (the button is recessed, but you can see it if you look carefully. The switch cuts fuel pressure if you get into an accident. Disconnect the gray cable connector using a small Straight Slot screwdriver and lightly pull the clip towards you while pushing down on the connector. This has the same effect as tripping the switch. Anyway, remove the connector and then crank the engine for 15-20 seconds (not 10. not 5. 15-20. (If the truck starts, you got the wrong connector). This will relieve the fuel pressure. Then use my trick to remove the fuel filter, there will still be abouit half a cup of fuel in the line that will pour out the filter, so do not be under it when you disconnect it. Use a food can or something to catch the fuel. Fuel will melt a styrofoam cup and a paper cup will probably fall apart. Otherwiise you will have to lay in it while finishing the job.
To install the new filter orient the new filter so the arrow on the filter points to the front of the vehicle, and snap the connectors back in place. You will feel a definite snap when they connect. Double check connection by trying to pull the hoses off the filter. Put the safety clips back on to hold it in place. Then connect the cable back to the fuel cutoff switch. Make sure you push the button on top of the switch, just to make sure, and crank her up. Good as new. Now put the kick panel back on.
By the way, you know you are a redneck if you pour the fuel that you caught in the can back into the tank!!
