My 99 V10 Idles at 1k even after warm up. Is that normal? I do have a K&N filter but I'm not sure if it would cause a increase in idle. Any info would be great. I've only owned my 99 F250SD for a few weeks so I'm new to the V10 world
I'd check the accuracy of tach first. They can be off by a couple hundred RPM.
If you're sure the idle is too high, check the throttle body for carbon build-up. Could be a little soot holding the butterfly valves open. Also check the throttle cable at both ends to be sure it's not holding the butterflies open.
Could also be the IAC Valve getting dirty or ports to it
If it starts wandering up/ down in a few weeks thats it.
Chk the screw on the throttle body that is near the throttle plate lever to see if someone hasn't been playing with it because the idle was messing up.

oct7brian, is your truck a stick? if it is, thats the way ford makes it. an automatic truck usually idles around 750 or so. my 2000 stick and the other sticks i have driven idle around 950. i asked my service manager why, he said ford idles up the manual transmission vehicles because it helps people that dont know how to use a clutch have a smoother launch without stalling it. go figure. matt

I was looking at the screw this morning when I was out spraying throttle body cleaner in the intake. How do I know it is out of adjustment? Where is the IAC valve on the intake? I'm new to the V10 world. Also I noticed the PCV hose is collapsed right at the throttle body would that cause a higher idle?
The screw should not be touching the lever at Idle,I believe the spec is slightly less than 1/8th away.
The IAC is the silver looking small canister on the back of the throttlebody with 2 wires going to it.2 small screws and it comes off. There is a gasket on there so becareful.
The k/n air filter could have cause a dirty maf as stated already.

Rich, you sure that throttle stop doesn't contact the level under normal operation?
I've noticed my 4.6L's do contact the throttle stop, haven't really looked at the V10 yet, but I'm pretty sure when I was doing the plugs that it was against the stop. If it's not against the stop, that means the throttle plate is sticking open, the TPS is hanging up, something. And sticking open, I mean that the plate can't return to the stop because there's too much crud ...

Change that 90 deg elbow that's attached to the throttle body and runs to the PVC valve. When it collapses a few times it finally fails.
Just for the record, my truck idles at 900 - '99 SD V10 5spd stick.
The screw should be touching the lever,I was thinking of something else.
I chkd the manual.Just make sure the throttle plate is gently against the body.
